Music Makers

What is Music Makers? Ages 7-10. Introduce your kids to the fundamentals of music in this fun and educational class.

Learn rhythm, dynamics, note reading, and recorder. We'll build confidence as musicians and learn musicianship. This fundamentals class will set your child up for any future music interests they pursue, whether that be instrumental, composition, or singing.

What will we do? We will learn musical dynamics, how to read treble clef, different music genres, and how to play the recorder.

This class is the perfect introduction to music fundamentals and will set your child up well for any future musical pursuits.

Highlights: I've been teaching early childhood music education for over 6 years, and I want this to be a fun and joyful introduction to music fundamentals.

**Note: This class fee includes the purchase of a recorder and recorder book.

Curriculum, Objectives and Outcomes:

Know what Musicianship is.
Know what rhythm is, and the difference between a steady beat and the rhythm of a song.
Know music dynamics: volume, piano/forte/mezzo. Tempo; largo/presto, accelerando/ritardando, and how to play it: logato/stoccato.
Know quarter notes, eighth notes, half notes, whole notes, and what dotting a note means. And how to play them all. Additionally, knowing what a triplet is in music.
How to read music, treble clef.
Musical terms, including the ‘staff chart’, ‘rhythm’, ‘steady beat’, ‘time signature’, a ‘measure’, a ‘bar ’, a ‘system’, and ‘repeat sign’.
Knowledge of the orchestra and what each family of instruments is called.
Know what a conductor is.
Know time signatures, including 4/4, 3/,4 and 2/4, and how to write and play a pattern in each signature.
A developing musical ear: the ability to differentiate between high vs low sounds, as well as different types of music.
An introduction to musical genres, including jazz, hip hop, classical, musical theatre, country, opera, folk, alternative, punk, rock, and pop. And their ability to identify music they like and classify what genre it would be considered.
Intro to playing musical instruments. And knowing how to do the correct fingering, knowing the anatomy of their instrument, and how to handle it with care.
They will be encouraged to compose their own music through instrument play or singing.
Above all, I want them to leave the class with a love of music and the knowledge that music is for everyone and can impact people’s lives in so many positive ways.
